Sensex, Nifty in green; IRCTC zooms by nearly 4 per cent, Alembic at all-time high

Ending Monday’s volatile session in the green, Sensex gained by 60.05 points or 0.16 per cent to close at 38,417.23 while Nifty inched up by 21.20 points or 0.19 per cent to settle at 11,355.05.

After the strategic meeting that took place today, Vodafone Idea announced rebranding itself as ‘Vi’. The company is also expected to hike tariff rate plans that would further support its revenue growth.

As for the day one of bidding of the IPO of Happiest Minds Technologies, the public issue saw a 1.97 times subscription so far, as it received bids for 4.59 crore equity shares against IPO size of over 2.32 crore shares (excluding anchor book). The reserved portion of retail investors has been subscribed 10 times while that of the non-institutional investors was 34.89 per cent. The portion set aside for qualified institutional investors saw 8 per cent subscription.

On the global front, indices in Asian markets such as Shanghai index, Hang Seng and Nikkei fell by 1.87 per cent, 0.43 per cent and 0.50 per cent, respectively whereas KOSPI gained by 0.67 per cent. Indices in the European markets such as FTSE 100, DAX, and CAC 40 were trading higher by 1.65 per cent, 1.27 per cent and 1.17 per cent, respectively.

Sensex gainers consisted of HUL that went up by 1.77 per cent, TCS rose by 1.64 per cent, ITC gained by 1.42 per cent, Asian Paints increased by 1.33 per cent, HDFC gained by 1.17 per cent, HCL Technologies rose by 0.93 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers included Mahindra & Mahindra, which went down by 3.46 per cent, Bajaj Finance declined by 2.54 per cent, NTPC fell by 2.43 per cent, UltraTech Cement plunged by 1.97 per cent, ONGC fell by 1.92 per cent, Bharti Airtel decreased by 1.51 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, IT index was the biggest gainer, which was up by 0.81 per cent whereas Realty index was the biggest loser that was down by 0.82 per cent.

BSE Small-Cap index declined by 0.20 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap index fell by 0.78 per cent.
