Sensex, Nifty gains; Realty, Banking stocks rally, DLF zooms more than 6 per cent
On Tuesday, it was green all along for Sensex with the key benchmark index gaining more than 477 points to close at 38528 levels thus registering 1.26 per cent gains. Nifty closed at 11385 levels, up by 138 points or 1.23 per cent.
The biggest contributors to today's gains were HDFC Bank, RIL, ICICI Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The banks rallied along with the cement and realty stocks with DLF delighting investors with nearly 10 per cent gains when it made an intra-day high of Rs 160.50 per share.
In the European markets, stocks were seen edging higher along with the US futures as the investors looked beyond the fresh tensions between the US and China over Huawei Technologies Co. Since 2018, it was the first time the US dollar gauge slipped to its lowest. DAX was 0.55 per cent up while CAC 40 gained 0.42 per cent even as FTSE gained 0.24 per cent at the time of filing this report.
The Asian bourses were mostly up with the exception of Nikkei which was down by 0.20 per cent. Hang Seng was up by 0.08 per cent while Shanghai inched up by 0.36 per cent.
The top gainers in today's trade were Ultra Tech cement up by 3.34 per cent, Kotak Bank gained 3.01 per cent, HDFC Bank sizzled 2.22 per cent, ICICI Bank inched up 2.54 by per cent and Asian Paints gained 2.06 per cent. On the other hand, among the top losers were Tech Mahindra down by 1.10 per cent, Power Grid down by 0.45 per cent, Bajaj Auto slipped by 0.48 per cent, Sun Pharma slid to 0.42 per cent while HCL Tech shed 0.53 per cent.
The BSE Small-Cap and BSE Mid-Cap built on its momentum from Monday and recorded gains of 1.33 per cent and 1.13 per cent respectively. Sanghvi Movers, Butterfly Gandhimati Appliances Co and Vindhya Telelinks were the top Small-Cap gainers. KIOCL, Shriram City Union Finance and Cholamandalam Investment and Finance Co were the top Mid-Cap gainers.
Most of the sectoral indices gained but the BSE healthcare was the only sectoral index marginally down by 0.11 per cent. BSE Realty was the best performing sectoral index as it gained 4.19 by per cent followed by BSE Bankex which was up by 2.16 per cent. BSE Metal index gained 1.40 per cent. BSE Consumer Durables inched up by 1.81 per cent. BSE Auto was up by 0.93 per cent while BSE IT index gained by 0.63 per cent. BSE FMCG Index gained 0.53 per cent.
