Sensex, Nifty gain; Vedanta plunges, Adani Transmission gains 5 per cent, Cigniti Technologies jumps 7 per cent

Continuing their momentum, on Wednesday, Sensex gained by 304.38 points or 0.77 per cent to close at 39,878.95 levels while Nifty rose by 76.45 points or 0.66 per cent to settle at 11,738.85 levels.

In today’s trading session, IT and FMCG stocks were in the green while selling pressure was witnessed amongst metal, pharma, and energy stocks.

RIL gained by more than 2 per cent after the company announced that Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) will be investing Rs 5,512.50 crore into the company's subsidiary i.e. Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL) for a 1.2 per cent stake in the company.

In global markets, Asian indices such as Hang Seng and KOSPI rose by 1.09 per cent and 0.89 per cent, respectively while Nikkei index closed flat. European indices such as DAX and CAC 40 were seen trading in negative, down by 0.30 per cent and 0.13 per cent, respectively while FTSE 100 was trading flat with a negative bias.

Crude oil prices fell over swelling inventories and also because of the disappointment owing to US President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel fiscal stimulus negotiations with lawmakers.

Sensex gainers included Titan Company that went up by 4.44 per cent, Bajaj Auto jumped 3.55 per cent, Maruti Suzuki rose by 2.28 per cent, RIL gained by 2.13 per cent, UltraTech Cement increased by 1.79 per cent, ONGC gained by 1.66 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers consisted of Bajaj Finance, which went down by 4.12 per cent, Power Grid decreased by 2.24 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries declined by 1.76 per cent, Tata Steel fell by 1.74 per cent, NTPC plunged 1.60 per cent, Bajaj Finserv fell by 1.39 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Consumer Durables index was the biggest gainer, up by 1.74 per cent whereas, Metal index was the biggest loser, down by 2.97 per cent. Auto index, IT index, and Bankex gained by 1.37 per cent, 0.64 per cent and 0.37 per cent, respectively. Realty index fell by 1.60 per cent while the Healthcare index closed flat.
