Sensex, Nifty dip; JSW Steel gains 2 per cent, RIL tumbles more than 5 per cent, Aarti Drugs zooms
On Monday, the domestic benchmark indices such as Sensex declined by 530.95 points or by 1.09 per cent to settle at 48,347.59 levels while Nifty decreased by 133 points or 0.93 per cent to close at 14,238.90 levels.
On the global front, Asian indices such as Shanghai Composite index, Hang Seng, Nikkei, and KOSPI rose by 0.48 per cent, 2.41 per cent, 0.67 per cent, and 2.18 per cent, respectively. In the European markets, FTSE 100, DAX & CAC 40 were down by 0.25 per cent, 0.27 per cent & 0.51 per cent, respectively.
Sensex gainers included Axis Bank that jumped 2.19 per cent, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries surged 2 per cent, Bajaj Auto gained 1.76 per cent, Bajaj Finserv increased by 1.47 per cent, HDFC Bank went up by 1.30 per cent, ICICI Bank inched higher by 0.85 per cent, Bharti Airtel strengthened by 0.79 per cent, etc.
Sensex losers consisted of RIL that plunged 5.36 per cent, IndusInd Bank slipped by 4.72 per cent, HCL Technologies slumped 3.80 per cent, Asian Paints decreased by 3.17 per cent, UltraTech Cement fell by 3.04 per cent, Power Grid went down by 2.16 per cent, Kotak Mahindra weakened by 1.97 per cent, ONGC dipped by 1.62 per cent, HDFC declined by 1.46 per cent, etc.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the Energy index was the biggest loser, down by 4.44 per cent while the Healthcare index was the biggest gainer, up by 0.93 per cent. Meanwhile, indices such as BSE Oil & Gas and BSE Auto fell by 2.16 per cent and 0.81 per cent, respectively.
In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index fell by 1.15 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap index declined by 1.14 per cent. Besides, Shriram Transport Finance, TVS Motor, Apollo Hospitals, Mahindra & Mahindra Finance were some of the top mid-cap index gainers.
