Sensex, Nifty crash; Future Retail zooms by 20 per cent, Adani Gas slumps
The Sensex on Monday made an intraday high of 40010.17 in the morning session to tumble by more than 1500 points and close at 38628.29 levels. Sensex was down by 839.02 points or 2.13 per cent. Nifty closed at 11387.50 levels, down by 260.10 points or 2.23 per cent.
The intrusion of Chinese forces into the Eastern Ladakh region triggered the market correction even as the experts believe the correction in stock prices was long overdue.
Boosted by a dovish US Fed, the European stocks traded higher. DAX was up by 0.69 per cent while CAC 40 gained 0.93 per cent. The Asian markets were mostly down with Shanghai slipping by 0.24 per cent and Hang Seng down by 0.96 per cent. Nikkei gained 1.12 per cent.
The top Sensex gainers in Monday’s trading were ONGC up by 1.74 per cent while TCS gained by 0.86 per cent.
The top Sensex losers were Sun Pharma down by 7.34 per cent, Bajaj Finance slipped by 5.10 per cent, Bajaj Finserv slid by 5.34 per cent, SBI down by 5.65 per cent and NTPC weakened by 5.07 per cent.
BSE Small-Cap index tumbled by 4.37 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap index was down by 3.79 per cent.
BSE Realty index was down by 4.70 per cent while BSE Telecom index was down by 1.75 per cent.
BSE Power index slipped by 3.79 per cent even as BSE Capital Goods index weakened by 3.74 per cent.
