Sensex close comfortably above 38000; NTPC shines, CG Power hit upper circuit
After witnessing volatility throughout the day both Sensex and Nifty on Monday managed to close comfortably in green. The Sensex managed to close at 38050 levels, up by 173 points or 0.46 per cent and Nifty closed at 11259 levels, up by 81 points or 0.72 per cent.
The highlight of today's trading session was infra related stocks such as NBCC, Man Infra and L&T.
In the European market, the stocks fluctuated and were marginally in green as the investors focused on travel restrictions and US-China trade tensions. DAX and CAC 40 were up by 0.33 per cent each while FTSE was up by 0.45 per cent at the time of filing this report. The airlines, travel agencies and real estate companies were seen underperforming while commodity producers were seen gaining in Monday’s trading session.
In the Asian bourses, China market outperformed with Shanghai inching up by as much as 2.34 per cent owing to broad-based V-shaped recovery expectations. Nikkei was down by 0.83 per cent while Hang Seng was up by 0.65 per cent.
The top Sensex gainer was NTPC up by more than 7 per cent, Bajaj Auto gained 4.24 per cent, Tech Mahindra was up by 3.62 per cent, ONGC rose by 2.79 per cent and Maruti Suzuki inched up by 2.67 per cent.
Among the top Sensex losers were SBI which fell by 1.73 per cent, Bharti Airtel dropped by 1.42 per cent, RIL slipped by 1.07 per cent, Sun Pharma slid by 0.58 per cent and ICICI Bank trading marginally down by 0.33 per cent.
Shares of Aditya Birla Fashion, APL Apollo Tube, Bajaj Electricals, KIOCL and Mindtree were seen hitting their fresh 52 weeks high in today's trade.
The BSE Small-Cap index outperformed the key benchmark index, gaining 0.84 per cent. The BSE Mid-Cap index was up by 0.41 per cent. Emami (7.35 per cent), Sun TV (6 per cent) and KIOCL (5.65 per cent) were the top Mid-Cap gainers. Thyrocare Technologies (20 per cent), Man Infraconstruction (19.82 per cent) and Redington (18.44 per cent) were the top Small-Cap gainers in today’s trade.
BSE Power was up by 2.96 per cent and was the best performing sectoral index followed by BSE Metal index which gained 2.73 per cent. BSE Auto index soared with 2.50 per cent gains. Similarly, the BSE Consumer durables index was up by 1.36 per cent while BSE Realty Index gained 1 per cent. BSE FMCG index was up by 0.95 per cent and BSE Bankex was up by 0.25 per cent and BSE Oil & Gas index was up by 0.20 per cent. However, BSE Healthcare was flat with no gains while BSE Telecom was down by 0.58 per cent.
