Rs 20,000 crore order: These companies have been awarded smart metering contracts by MSEDCL

Has granted smart metering contracts valued at an astounding Rs. 20,000 crore to four distinguished entities

Friday proved to be a monumental turning point for the burgeoning world of smart meter companies as the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) unleashed a staggering wave of opportunity. In a seismic shift, MSEDCL has granted smart metering contracts valued at an astounding Rs. 20,000 crore to four distinguished entities. This revelation, though yet to be officially confirmed, has sent shockwaves of anticipation throughout the industry.

Reports from trusted sources indicate that MSEDCL's ambitious initiative will see the installation of an astonishing 1.72 crore smart meters. The driving force behind this monumental development appears to be the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), though the official confirmation remains elusive.

The fortunate victors of these game-changing contracts are none other than industry titans: the Adani Group, represented by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, NCC Ltd, Genus Power & Infrastructures Ltd, and MonteCarlo Ltd. Their names alone evoke a sense of awe and anticipation in the field of smart metering.

To comprehend the sheer magnitude of this endeavor, consider the statistics. According to information provided by T&D India, a staggering total of 2.36 crore smart meters have been greenlit for deployment in Maharashtra under the RDSS banner. As of July 14, 2023, contracts for approximately 10.76 lakh smart meters have already been inked, igniting the journey toward a smarter, more efficient energy landscape.

One of the standout contributors to this transformative movement is Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (formerly Adani Transmission Ltd). In October 2022, they triumphantly secured the role of advanced metering infrastructure service provider (AMISP) in the prestigious BEST Undertaking tender. Their Distribution Platform will orchestrate the grand symphony of smart metering on a Design-Build-Finance-Own-Operate-Transfer (DBFOOT) basis.

Under this mandate, Adani Energy Solutions Ltd will oversee the installation of an astounding 10.80 lakh smart meters, accompanied by the establishment of a cutting-edge Communication & Cloud infrastructure. Over the span of 30 months, they will breathe life into this visionary project, followed by 90 months of meticulous maintenance. The end result will be a seamless, end-to-end smart metering solution, ensuring both distribution infrastructure and end consumers of BEST Undertaking enjoy the benefits of complete energy accounting, all achieved with remarkable precision and zero manual intervention. The future of energy is here, and it's nothing short of awe-inspiring.
