The domestic markets were affected by US Federal Reserve's hawkish stance on interest rates which infused pessimism amongst the investors. The banking stocks faced the brunt which continued the correction in local benchmark indices.
Sensex closed 337.06 points or 0.57 per cent at 59,119.72 while Nifty ended 88.50 points or 0.50 per cent down at 17,629.80 level. Power Grid Corporation, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, Coal India and HDFC were among the major Nifty losers while gainers included Titan Company, HUL, Asian Paints, Eicher Motors and Maruti Suzuki.

Venus Pipes and Tubes - Shares of Venus Pipes and Tubes gained more than 3 per cent in Thursday's trading session in an otherwise volatile market. This move came on the news that approved a capacity expansion of Rs 50 crore for a bigger diameter Tube Mill to manufacture stainless steel welded pipes.
