Opening Bell: Markets cheer on Friday after a spooky Thursday; Sensex zooms over 1000 points
On the sectoral front, BSE Metal and BSE Realty indices attractively traded 4 per cent higher while other sectoral indices traded gaining between 1 per cent to 3 per cent
On Friday, after frightening the investors in Thursday's trading session by Sensex tanking beyond 2,500 points, Indian benchmark indices had a gap-up on the back of positive global markets.
At 9.40 am, Sensex was up 1,099.91 points or 2.02 per cent at 55,629.82 level, and the Nifty was up 360.60 points or 2.22 per cent at 16,608.55 level. At the opening, about 1544 shares have advanced, 611 shares declined, and 68 shares are unchanged.
BSE Midcap opened at 22,609.34 level, up by 3.04 per cent and BSE Smallcap started the trading session at 25,765.34 level, zooming 3.66 per cent. Similarly, Nifty Midcap 100 was at 27,749.90, rising by 3.29 per cent and Nifty Smallcap 100 was at 9,747.55, 4.4 per cent higher.
Within Sensex, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro and Ultratech Cement were top gainers while Nestle India, HUL, Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Maruti Suzuki and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries were the top losers.
Tata Motors, UPL, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel and Adani Ports were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Britannia Industries and Nestle and Cipla.

SAIL, APL Apollo Tubes, Jindal Steel, Vedanta and NMDC were the gaining stocks within the BSE Metal index whereas Indiabulls Real Estate, Sunteck Realty, Macrotech Developers, DLF and Oberoi Realty were the top gaining stocks within BSE Realty index.
