Mutual fund categories that outperformed in November 2021

November 2021 was not that good for the markets. This is very well reflected in the performance of equity mutual funds as well. Read on to find out more.

November 2021 was quite volatile for the markets (Nifty 50). Though it did try to recover its grounds but failed to breach its all-time high of 18,604 registered on November 19, 2021, and recorded by a lower high. It further slipped to make a lower low of 27,216.10 on November 23, 2021. Nifty 50 began November with a positive bias by opening above the previous month’s close at 17,783.15, but in the mid-month, it made a U-turn and closed at 16,983.20 registering a negative growth of 3.9 per cent.

In November 2021, there were pockets in the market that outperformed such as telecom, power, technology and healthcare recording returns of 6.66 per cent, 3.56 per cent, 2.7 per cent and 1.87 per cent, respectively. Even the broader markets outperformed the market barometer. This again proves that diversification is key to better risk management.

With mutual funds as well, the story was the same. In fact, there are only two equity mutual fund categories that made to the list of top 10 best performing categories, while the rest all are debt mutual funds.

On the flipside, categories such as banking funds, energy funds, PSU funds, value funds and large-cap funds have underperformed the rest by registering a negative return of 8.2 per cent, 6.13 per cent, 3.6 per cent, 3.53 per cent and 3.06 per cent, respectively.

Here is the list of the top 10 mutual fund categories, when compared to others, that have performed well in November 2021.
