The retail inflation, measured by Consumer Price Index (CPI) eased to a five-month low of 6.71 per cent in the month of July down from 7.01 per cent in June thereby, successfully complementing the rate hikes carried out by RBI since May 2022.
Also, the country’s factory output, measured by Index of Industrial Production (IIP), witnessed a growth of 12.3 per cent in June. Despite reducing to its lowest level since February 2022, the CPI continues to remain above RBI’s upper margin of 6 per cent for the seventh consecutive month.
At 3.15 pm, Sensex was at 59,841.34, up by 0.64 per cent or 378.56 points while Nifty 50 was trading at 17,829.30, up by 131.15 points or 0.74 per cent.
The Top Gainers on Sensex were Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Asian Paints, HUL, and HDFC Bank. On the other hand, the Top Losers included SBI, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finance, and TCS.
The shares of DFM Foods, Jubilant Industries, Arman Financial Services, Career Point, IndiaBulls Real Estate, and 3i Infotech were some of the top gainers of BSE Smallcap index.
On the sectoral front, BSE Auto surged 2.57 per cent while BSE Realty climbed 2.03 per cent, followed by BSE Oil & Gas (1.76 per cent), BSE Power (1.48 per cent), and BSE Utilities (up by 1.40 per cent).
The only lagger in the sectoral indices was BSE Metal, which ended 0.17 per cent lower on the bourses.
Sensex has gained 9.76 per cent in a month whereas BSE Smallcap index outperformed the broader indices by 7.87 per cent in a month’s time.
