Ministry of Education forms an expert committee to bring NITIE under IIM Act 2017
Shri Ashish Kumar Chauhan, MD & CEO, Bombay Stock Exchange & Chancellor, University of Allahabad to head the committee of experts to deliberate on the feasibility of bringing National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai under IIM Act, 2017.
Government of India’s Ministry of Education (Department of Higher Education) have recently announced via a press release the constitution of a committee of experts to deliberate on the feasibility of bringing National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai under IIM Act, 2017.
National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai, established by the Government of India in 1963 is an autonomous body under Ministry of Education, registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The institute has been a frontrunner in imparting education to youth in the field of industrial engineering, engineering management and management sciences, who subsequently build their career in industry and businesses to contribute to the nation's economic development. The institute aspires to come under the purview of IIM Act.
Accordingly, with the approval of Hon'ble Education Minister it has been decided to constitute the following committee of experts to deliberate on the feasibility of bringing National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) Mumbai under IIM Act, 2017:

The terms of reference (TOR) of the committee shall be as follows:-
- To assess the preparedness of the institute for inclusion under IIM Act, 2017.
- To examine the aspect of adequacy of the existing infrastructure/academic & non-academic staff of the institute vis-à-vis the requirement for the proposed inclusion under IIM Act.
- To estimate the financial implications of the decision and the Institute's future road map.
- To assess any HR issues like designation/financial emoluments/cadre restructuring related issues of teaching and non-teaching staff.
The committee may co-opt other members in the group for their specific inputs. The secretarial assistance to the committee will be provided by NITIE.
The committee shall endeavour to submit its report within one month from the date of issue of the communication (i.e. January 31, 2022).
Mumbai being the commercial capital has always felt the need for a nationally recognized management institute of the level of IIMs and the central government has now put wheels in motion to consider it seriously.
