Market Wrap: Sensex and Nifty finish with marginal declines!

On August 7, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 1,892.77 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 1,080.80 crore.

Market Summary at 3:50 PM: The Indian stock market wrapped up the trading session with a slight dip as both Sensex and Nifty concluded lower by 0.16 per cent and 0.13 per cent respectively. In contrast, Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap exhibited resilience, finishing the day with gains of 0.23 per cent and 0.27 per cent respectively.

The India VIX demonstrated increased volatility, surging by 1.98 per cent.

Among the standout performers were Nifty PSU Bank, Nifty Media, and Nifty Pharma, which saw notable gains. Conversely, Nifty Metal, Nifty Energy, and Nifty Auto faced losses during the trading session.

Noteworthy gainers in the Nifty 50 included Hero Motocorp, SBI Life, and Cipla, while Adani Enterprises, Power Grid, and Hindalco found themselves among the top losers.

The broader market showcased a mildly positive sentiment, with around 1054 advancing stocks compared to 908 declining stocks, suggesting a favorable outlook.

Market Update at 12:40 PM: Sensex and Nifty trade lower by 0.18 per cent each.

Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap trade lower by 0.29 per cent and 0.07 per cent respectively.

European markets are set for a slightly lower open on Tuesday as investors await significant inflation data due later this week. DAX and FTSE futures are down by 0.3 per cent and 0.57 per cent respectively.

India VIX has surged by 2.70 per cent.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Bank and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top gainers while Nifty Realty, Nifty Metal and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Hero Motocorp, Cipla and SBI Life are among the top gainers while Adani Ports, Adani Enterprises and Power Grid are among the top losers from the Nifty 50.

About 949 stocks are advancing as against to 1033 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a slight negative sentiment in the broader market.

Nifty Midcap trades lower by 0.19 per cent while Nifty Smallcap trades marginally higher by 0.01 per cent.

India VIX has surged by 2.52 per cent.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Media and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top gainers while Nifty Auto, Nifty Metal and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Hero Motocorp, Cipla and Tech Mahindra are among the top gainers while Adani Ports, Power Grid and M&M are among the top losers from the Nifty 50.

About 1090 stocks are advancing as against to 887 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 9:30 AM: Sensex and Nifty trade on a flat note.

Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap trade higher by 0.17 per cent and 0.21 per cent respectively.

India VIX has surged by 2.16 per cent.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Energy and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top gainers while Nifty IT, Nifty Auto and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Hero Motocorp, Cipla and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories are among the top gainers while Adani Ports, Power Grid and Adani Enterprises are among the top losers from the Nifty 50.

About 1257 stocks are advancing as against to 582 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:00 AM: On Monday during the normal trading session, the Dow, consisting of 30 stocks, surged impressively, gaining over almost 1.2 per cent, marking its most successful performance since June 15. Similarly, the Nasdaq Composite experienced a 0.6 per cent increase, while the S&P 500 concluded the session with a 0.9 per cent rise. This notable upturn in the Nasdaq and the S&P 500 halted a streak of four consecutive sessions of losses.

Oil prices retreated from their four-month highs. Global benchmark Brent futures saw a 0.9 per cent decline, settling at USD 85.44 per barrel, despite recently hitting their peak since April. Similarly, U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures also dropped by 1 per cent, reaching USD 82.02 per barrel. Meanwhile, the Dollar index exhibited a 0.11 per cent gain in futures, reaching 102.13, while the value of one dollar remained close to Rs 82.78.

The GIFT Nifty points towards a slightly downward beginning for the benchmark indices, showing a decrease of 25 points. This follows the Nifty's previous closure at 19,597 points, having gained 80 points on August 7. The GIFT Nifty futures are currently positioned at 19,656 points.

On August 7, foreign institutional investors (FII) offloaded shares worth Rs 1,892.77 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) bought shares worth Rs 1,080.80 crore.

Stocks that are banned for trading in the F&O segment on August 8, 2023, are Balrampur Chini Mills, GNFC, Hindustan Copper, Indiabulls Housing Finance, India Cements and Piramal Enterprises Ltd.
