Market Wrap: Benchmark indices close on a lower note with Nifty Realty among the top losers!

On Monday’s trading session Benchmark indices concluded the day on a lower note with Sensex closing marginally lower by 0.24 per cent closing at 71,315.10 level, while Nifty plunged by 0.18 per cent closing at 21,418.65.

Market Update at 3:40 PM: On Monday’s trading session Benchmark indices concluded the day on a lower note with Sensex closing marginally lower by 0.24 per cent closing at 71,315.10 level, while Nifty plunged by 0.18 per cent closing at 21,418.65. Similarly, Broader indices closed on a higher note with Nifty Midcap surging by 0.11 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap soared by 0.71 per cent.

Market volatility, as indicated by India VIX, has surged by 5.88 per cent, reflecting an increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Metal were among the top gainers while, Nifty Realty, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Bank were among the top losers.

Bajaj Auto, Hindalco and Adani Ports were among the top gainers while Power Grid, ICICI Bank and ITC were among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1099 stocks were advancing as against to 946 stocks that were declining, thus indicating an optimistic sentiment in the broader market.

Market Update at 2:15 PM: In the current trading session the Sensex has plummeted by 0.12 per cent, while Nifty has plunged by 0.08 per cent. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap trades moderately higher by 0.32 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 0.76 per cent.

India VIX has marginally increased by 6.76 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty Media, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Metal are among the top gainers while, Nifty Realty, Nifty Bank and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

Bajaj Auto, Sun Pharma and Adani Ports are among the top gainers while Power Grid, JSW Steel and Britannia are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1198 stocks are advancing as against to 853 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 12:45 PM: In the current trading session the Sensex has plummeted by 0.11 per cent, while Nifty has plunged by 0.07 per cent. In the broader market, Nifty Midcap trades moderately higher by 0.43 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap has surged by 0.69 per cent.

India VIX has marginally increased by 6.82 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

European markets are heading for a lower open on Monday as indicated by European futures, DAX, CAC and FTSE which currently are trading lower by 0.38 per cent, 0.15 per cent and 0.03 per cent respectively.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Media and Nifty Metal are among the top gainers while, Nifty Realty, Nifty Bank and Nifty FMCG are among the top losers.

India VIX has marginally increased by 6.42 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

About 1282 stocks are advancing as against to 762 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Market Update at 9:35 AM: On Monday, Indian markets initiated the trading week on a negative note with the Sensex opening marginally lower by 0.24 per cent, while Nifty also opening lower by 0.19 per cent. Whereas, Nifty Midcap opened on a higher note surging marginally by 0.05 per cent, while Nifty Smallcap opened higher by 0.21 per cent.

India VIX has surged by 6.28 per cent, indicating a slight increase in market volatility.

Nifty Pharma, Nifty Auto and Nifty Metal are among the top gaining sectors while Nifty Media, Nifty Realty and Nifty PSU Bank are among the top losers.

Bajaj Auto, Eicher Motors and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories are among the top gainers while Coal India, JSW Steel and Power Grid are among the top losing stocks from the Nifty 50.

About 1146 stocks are advancing as against to 780 stocks that are declining, thus indicating a positive sentiment in the broader market.

 

Pre-Market Update at 8:05 AM: In a volatile trading session on Friday, the S&P 500 closed relatively unchanged but marked its seventh consecutive week of gains, the longest winning streak since 2017 and following the Federal Reserve's recent dovish shift.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average achieved a record high close for the third consecutive session, rising by 56.81 points or 0.15 per cent to 37,305.16. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 experienced a marginal loss of 0.36 points or 0.01 per cent, closing at 4,719.19, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 52.36 points or 0.35 per cent, reaching 14,813.92.

For the week, the Dow posted a gain of 2.9 per cent, the Nasdaq climbed 2.8 per cent, and the S&P 500 added 2.5 per cent.

GIFT Nifty trends suggest a neutral opening for the benchmark indices in India, showing a marginal gain of 4 points. Nifty futures are currently trading around the 21,478 level.

In early Asian trading on Monday, oil prices experienced an almost 1 per cent increase, buoyed by diminished exports from Russia and concerns over potential disruptions in oil supply due to attacks by the Houthis on ships in the Red Sea.

Brent crude futures rose by 69 cents, or 0.9 per cent, reaching USD 77.24 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude stood at USD 72.08 a barrel, reflecting a 65-cent, or 0.9 per cent, increase.

Despite a Friday rebound in the dollar following remarks from Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams resisting market expectations for rate cuts, the dollar index remained on track for its weakest weekly performance in a month.

On December 15, 2023, foreign institutional investors (FII) bought shares worth Rs 9,239.42 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DII) offloaded shares worth Rs 3,077.43 crore.

Stocks that are banned for trading in the F&O segment on December 18, 2023, are BALRAMCHIN, DELTACORP, HINDCOPPER, INDIACEM, MANAPPURAM, SAIL and ZEEL.
