aking global cues which closed weaker on Friday over the tensions between Russia - Ukraine, the Indian market opened with weakness as well and closed the day’s session in red. Sensex closed a little lower at 57683.59 with a loss of 149 points or 0.3 per cent. While Nifty closed at 17206.65 with a loss of 69.7 points or 0.4 per cent.
In the broader market, BSE Midcap closed at 23582.26 while BSE Smallcap at 27137.15, both ended in red. BSE 500 also followed suit at 23204.19 with a loss of 182 points. Among sectoral indices, barring Banking (that ended the day on a positive note) all major sectors ending in red led by Oil& Gas, Utilities, Basic materials and Metal.

IDEA rallied 5.53 per cent in today’s session and the stock closed at Rs 11.25 with an intraday high and low of Rs 11.64 and Rs 10.43. The rally was seen with the news of the government hiring a transaction adviser to help manage the conversion of interest dues related to deferred spectrum payments and adjusted gross revenue into equity in Vodafone Idea Ltd. The transaction will see the government becoming the largest shareholder in Vodafone Idea thereby garnering hopes for the survival of the debt-ridden company.
Kalpataru Power Transmission rallied 3.03 per cent to close at Rs 401.15. The stock was buzzing on the back of the news that Kalpataru Power will merge its subsidiary JMC Projects (India) Ltd with self in the ratio fixed as 1:4. Today, the stock logged an intraday high and low of Rs 409.45 and Rs 390.05, respectively.
