The equity benchmark indices closed on the upper side for the fourth straight day in a volatile trading session on Friday.

The equity benchmark indices closed on the upper side for the fourth straight day in a volatile trading session on Friday. 

 

The auto stocks logged profit booking and settled in the red at the end of the day. The Nifty Pharma index closed up 2.46 per cent at 13,399 today. The rupee has depreciated and is currently trading at 76.56 against the US dollar. The crude oil price has increased by 2 per cent almost and is trading at USD 108.80.  

 

The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, went down by 7.61 per cent to 29.98 levels. The Nifty 50 index was gained by 35 points and closed at 16,630.45 levels. Bank Nifty has also climbed by 70 points and ended the day at 34,546.25. The Sensex settled at 55,550.30 advanced 85 points. Similarly, the Sensex MidCap index has scaled up today by 103 points and ended the day at 23,309.95 levels. Similarly, the BSE SmallCap has ascended by 243 points and stood at 27,141.43 at day end.  

 

On the BSE Sensex today the top stocks were Dr Reddy's Laboratories, ITC, Power Grid Corporation of India, Titan and Asian Paints. On the other hand, the top losers were Nestle India, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, Axis Bank, and TCS. 

 

The total stocks traded today were 3458 out of which 2076 advanced and 1263 stocks declined, 119 stocks were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in upper circuit are 15 and 4 stocks were locked in the lower circuit today. Around 89 stocks have made a 52-week high and 16 stocks made a 52-week low today.
