Closing bell: Sensex, Nifty rally for second consecutive day; HDFC and HDFC Bank leap 9 per cent

All the sectoral indices on BSE and NSE ended in green. The major winning sectors today were BSE Finance, Bankex, metal, and power. Most European stocks were trading higher while most Asian markets ended on a positive note on Monday. NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market volatility, went down by 1.56 per cent to 20.24 levels.
BSE Sensex rallied leaps & bounds, gaining 1,335 points at 60,611 levels. Also, Sensex MidCap index has climbed 310 points and closed the day at 24,754 levels. Meanwhile, BSE SmallCap ascends to the levels of 29,182, up by 483 points. On BSE Sensex today, the top stocks were HDFC Bank, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Hindustan Unilever, and Larsen & Toubro. On the other hand, the top losers were only Infosys and Titan.
Nifty 50 index crossed the 18,000 mark and closed at 18,053, gaining 382 points. Bank Nifty also hopped by 1,486 points and ended the day at 38,635. The top gaining stocks were HDFC Bank, HDFC, Adani Ports, HDFC Life Insurance, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. The major losing stocks were Infosys, Titan, Tata Consumers, and JSW Steel.
The total stocks traded today were 3,672, out of which 2,682 advanced and 846 stocks declined. There were 144 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 664 while 162 stocks got locked in their lower circuit. The number of stocks that have made a 52-week high is 179 while there were 15 stocks that made a fresh 52-week low today.
