Closing bell: Sensex and Nifty cut two-day losing streak to end in green territory

BSE Sensex jumped 436 points to close at 55,818 levels.

The market closed in the green, putting an end to the two-day losing streak. The major gaining sectors today on BSE were oil & gas, information technology, and metal while auto & financial services sectors lost the most amongst all. Bombay Dyeing, Religare Enterprises, and Raymond were the most trending stocks, gaining more than 10 per cent returns in one day.  

  

BSE Sensex jumped 436 points to close at 55,818 levels. BSE Midcap index fell by 8 points to end the day at 23,111 levels. On the flip side, BSE Smallcap index saw an increase of 160 points to close at 26,694 levels. The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharmaceutical, HCL Technologies, HCL Technologies, and TCS. However, the top-losing stocks were HDFC, Hindustan Unilever, Power Grid Corporation of India, HDFC Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank.     

    

Nifty 50 also ended in the green mark at 16,628 levels, mounting by 105 points. On the other hand, Bank Nifty slipped by merely 7 points to close the day at 35,613 levels. The top gaining stocks were Reliance Industries, Bajaj Finserv, Sun Pharmaceutical, TCS, and HCL Technologies. On the contrary, the Top Losers were Apollo Hospitals, Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, HDFC, and Power Grid Corporation of India.  

    

The total stocks traded today were 3,444, out of which, 1,972 advanced and 1,334 stocks declined. There were 138 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 300 while 190 stocks hit their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that hit a new 52-week high is 67 while 44 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.   

  

Dow Jones futures were up by 115 points, signalling that the US stock market would open higher today. On Thursday, most of the European stocks rose watching the inflation data but Asian indices declined amid worries about data on inflation & economic activity.
