Closing bell: Profit booking affects Nifty and Sensex to extend their losses for the second day; metal and energy stocks surge
Nifty 50 ended with a negative note on the third day at 16,569 levels with a loss of 14 points
BSE Sensex closed with a loss of 93 points at 55,675 levels. Similarly, BSE Midcap index lost 35 points to end the day at 22,739 levels. Likewise, BSE Smallcap index dropped 143 points to close at 26,240 levels. The top stocks on BSE Sensex today were Tata Steel, Induslnd Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, ITC, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. However, the Top Losers were Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, and Larsen & Toubro.
Nifty 50 ended with a negative note on the second day at 16,569 levels with a loss of 14 points. On the other hand, Bank Nifty gained 35 points and closed the day at 35,310 levels. The top gaining stocks were Bajaj Auto, JSW Steel, Tata Consumer, ONGC, and Apollo Hospitals. The top losing stocks today were Shree Cement, BPCL, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, and Hero MotoCorp.
The total stocks traded today were 3,557, out of which, 1,441 advanced and 1,957 stocks declined. There were 159 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 298 and the number of stocks that closed in the lower circuit today was 268. The number of stocks that made a new 52-week high is 72 and there were 75 stocks that made a fresh 52-week low today.
The rupee stayed flat against the dollar in the foreign currency market. The rupee was holding around 77.66 compared to its previous trading session's closing of 77.66. Gold futures on MCX increased 0.20 per cent to Rs 51,070 on June 3, 2022 settlement. Brent crude for June 2022 settlement increased 63 cents or 0.53 per cent to $120.35 a barrel on the commodities market.
