Closing Bell: Market extends fall in a volatile trading session
Domestic equity bourses closed at a lower level for the second day in a row. On the sectoral front, the Bank index slipped 1 per cent, because of the ABG Shipyard fraud. SBI and ICICI Bank have an exposure of Rs 2,925 crore on the defrauded.

Sensex closed with a slight loss of 104 points, or down by 0.18 per cent, and closed of 57,892.01. The Sensex MidCap index fell by 52 points and ended the day at 23,964.86 levels. The BSE SmallCap also is declined by 189 points and stood at 27,972.45 at day end. The Nifty 50 index also slipped by 17 points and closed at 17,304 levels. The Bank Nifty plunged by 422 points and ended at 37,531.65. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, went up by 6.86 per cent i.e. by 1.41 points to 22.00 levels.
The top gainers on the BSE Sensex exchange were on Power Grid Corporation of India, Hindustan Unilever, Larsen & Toubro, and Reliance Industries. On the other hand, the top losers on the ICICI Bank, Ultratech Cement, Axis Bank, Induslnd Bank, and Nestle India. The total stocks traded today were 3,473 out of which 1,304 advanced and 2,068stocks declined, 101 stocks were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit are 288 and stocks that were locked in the lower circuit today were 299. The numbers of stocks that have made a 52-week high are 112 and 31 stocks made a 52-week low today.
