Closing bell: Market ends higher on Monday; IT, realty, and consumer durables shine, pharma drags

The European markets are also trading higher as the global cues were also positive. DAX index is up by 0.84 per cent whereas CAC is up by 0.87 per cent. The easing COVID restrictions in China and the upcoming PMI index announcement for May in Japan have driven the Asia Pacific markets on the higher side today.
At the time of market closing, BSE Sensex was at 55,925.74, up by 1,041.08 points or 1.90 per cent. BSE Midcap index also ended at 23,031.29, up by 513.55 points or 2.28 per cent. BSE Smallcap index closed at 26,192.30 levels, higher by 2.23 per cent or 570.73 points.
The Top Gainers on BSE Sensex today were Titan Company, Mahindra & Mahindra, Infosys, Larsen & Toubro, and Tech Mahindra. On the other hand, the stocks of Kotak Mahindra Bank, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and ITC turned out to be the Top Losers.
Meanwhile, Nifty 50 rose by 308.95 points or 1.89 per cent and closed at the 16,661.40 level. Likewise, Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 were also up by 2.42 per cent & 3.08 per cent, respectively. On the contrary, Bank Nifty was up by 0.0 per cent and was at the 35,826.95 level.
The top gainers on Nifty 50 were Titan Company, Mahindra & Mahindra, Adani Ports & SEZ, Infosys, and Larsen & Toubro. The stocks losing the most were Kotak Mahindra Bank, JSW Steel, Sun Pharmaceutical, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and ITC.
The total stocks traded on BSE today were 3,615, out of which, 236 advanced while 1,090 stocks declined. There were 156 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 384 while 251 stocks closed in the lower circuit today. Around 65 stocks touched a fresh 52-week high while 53 stocks hit a new 52-week low today.
