Closing Bell: Equity indices end three-day losing trend; all NSE sectoral indices close in green except IT

Today, the major gaining sectors were energy, FMCG, metal, oil & gas, and power. The shares of Mangalore Chemicals, Deep Industries, Zuari, and Jaiprakash Associates gave exception returns in today’s session. NSE's India VIX, a gauge of market volatility, went down by 6.90 per cent to 17.69 levels.  

BSE Sensex jumped 412 points to 59,447 points. In addition, Sensex Midcap index gained 233 points to end the day at 25,303. Similarly, BSE Smallcap index rose by 291 points to 29,765. ITC, Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Titan, and Reliance Industries were the top stocks on BSE Sensex today. On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, and NTPC were the Top Losers today.  

Nifty scaled the 17,800 mark but ended at 17,784, gaining 144 points. Bank Nifty also ascended 194 points and finished the day at 37,752. The top gaining stocks were Grasim Industries, ITC, SBI Life Insurance, JSW Steel, and Adani Ports. The stocks losing the most were Cipla, Tech Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, NTPC, and HCL Technologies.  

The total stocks traded today were 3,509, out of which, 2,291 advanced and 1,095 stocks declined. There were 124 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 12 while only three stocks got locked in their lower circuits today. The number of stocks that have made a new 52-week high is 163 and while 12 stocks made a fresh 52-week low today.
