BSE Sensex continued its journey in the red zone, plummeting by 703 points to 56,463 points. Sensex Midcap index has dropped 296 points to end the day at 24,450 levels. However, BSE Smallcap index tumbled 354 points to close at 28,869 levels. Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, SBI Life Insurance, and Bajaj Finance were the top stocks on BSE Sensex today. On the other hand, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Infosys, ITC, and Tech Mahindra were the Top Losers today.
Nifty closed under the 17,000 mark at 16,958, sinking by 215 points. Bank Nifty also plunged 387 points and closed the day at 37,341. The top gaining stocks were Apollo Hospitals, Coal India, Reliance Industries, BPCL, and ICICI Bank. The stocks losing the most were HDFC, HDFC Bank, SBI Life Insurance, HDFC Life Insurance, and Tata Consumer Products.
The total stocks that traded today were 3,536, out of which, 1,231 advanced and 2,182 stocks declined. There were 123 stocks that were unchanged. The number of stocks that were locked in the upper circuit was 249 while 183 stocks got locked in the lower circuit. Around 216 stocks made a fresh 52-week high while 20 stocks hit a new 52-week low today. On Tuesday, the European stocks fell across the board while Asian markets were divided with investors' attention focussed on the latest developments in the Russian-Ukraine conflict.
