Best Performing Mutual Fund of FY18

Financial year 2018 ended two days earlier for all practical purpose from the stock market perspective. Nevertheless, this did not rob it of any excitement. The FY18 can be divided into two halves. First 10 months ending January 2018, which saw stock indices touching new highs every month, literally. Nevertheless, in the last two months of FY18, we saw increased volatility in the market, especially after the Union Budget of FY19. Despite all the volatility at the fag end of FY18, the clear winner remained the IT sector that generated best returns among all category followed by consumer goods sector.

We will see which sectors and market cap-oriented funds remained the best performer in FY18.

In terms of sectors, the best performing fund was IT. On an average these five funds generated 25.75 per cent in the last one year. Followed by IT was consumers good sector that on an average generated return of 21.42 per cent. Infrastructure sector remained the third best sector in terms of returns and generated 15 per cent on an average.

In terms of market cap wise, the clear winner is Small-cap dedicated funds. The 11 funds under this category on average generated 21 per cent. SBI Small & Mid-cap generated the best return among the Small-cap and was at 35.81 per cent for FY18.

Following the Small-cap funds in terms of returns were the Mid-cap funds. The 49 Mid-cap dedicated funds on an average generated 14.85% in last one year. The best return was given by Edelweiss Mid-cap Fund.
