Auto Sales December 2017
2017 was a remarkable year for auto sales, the continued growth in the sector was supported by December 2017 sales as well. Undoubtedly, the prime reason for the year-over-year growth was effects of demonetization (December 2016).
Maruti Suzuki, the largest company in India reported topline sales growth of 12 per cent. This is the 12th consecutive monthly rise in sales for the company. Sales were supported by strong traction in Dezire, Baleno and Brezza.
Mahindra & Mahindra sales grew up by 8 per cent during the month. Growth in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment came with disappointing figures with degrowth of 7 per cent. The same was offset by 151 per cent rise in the medium and heavy commercial vehicle (M&HCV) segment.
In the two-wheeler segment, TVS Motors reported a stellar growth of 35 per cent in total sales, in which exports surged to 55 per cent during the period. Eicher Motors, on the other hand, reported 17 per cent growth. The growth was led by spike in demand for its two-wheelers, supported by 48 per cent growth in their exports. Bajaj Auto sales grew by 30 per cent on account of strong exports. The company reported highest ever sales in its commercial vehicle (three-wheeler) segment with 187 per cent rise.
