Ashok Leyland reduces carbon footprint by 60 per cent; share jumps 3 per cent

Ashok Leyland announced today that it has increased the sourcing of clean energy to 60 per cent for its countrywide operations.

With this, Ashok Leyland Ltd, the flagship company of Hinduja Group and India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer has procured 75 per cent of its energy consumption via solar rooftop, solar ground mount, and wind-based renewable energy in Tamil Nadu along with 60 per cent throughout India.

Ashok Leyland has built a solar plant with a capacity of 75 MWp in Sivaganga district, (Tamil Nadu), which is one of the largest group captive solar plants in India, serving a single client. The plant is able to generate more than 120 million units of power annually.

Over the past few months, the company has relentlessly focussed on sustainability with many successful initiatives including the rainwater harvesting initiative. This has helped the company to implement low flow water systems to minimise water consumption and recycle all waste to avoid it going to the landfills.

Around 3 pm today, the shares of the company were trading at Rs 132.55 per piece, which is 3 per cent or Rs 3.80 above its previous close of Rs 128.75.
