According to SGX Nifty, Nifty 50 began higher at 18,288.8 compared to its previous closing of 18,199.1. This was due to strong global cues. However, it quickly reversed course and began to fall toward the day's low of 18,106.6. The leading Wall Street indices posted their greatest daily increases in December so far on Wednesday.
Consumer confidence in the United States reached an 8-month high in December, but inflation expectations fell to their lowest level since September 2021, at 6.7 per cent. Nasdaq Composite rose 1.54 per cent, Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 1.6 per cent, and S&P 500 gained 1.49 per cent. Asian peers soared on Thursday, mirroring Wall Street's overnight surge.
Nifty 50 was trading at 18,107.9 at 12:30 p.m., down 91.2 points or 0.5 per cent. Broader market indices are underperforming frontline indices. Nifty Mid-Cap 100 index is down 1.12 per cent, while the Nifty Small-Cap 100 index is down 1.75 per cent.
The advance-decline ratio on the BSE is negative, with 2940 falling, 551 rising, and 84 staying unchanged. All sectors traded in the red, with PSU banks, metals, realty, and auto hitting the most.
According to December 21 statistics, FIIs were net sellers while DIIs were net purchasers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold Rs 1,119.11 crore worth of shares. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,757.37 crore.
