THE SIXTH DSIJ PSU AWARDS 2014

Dalal Street Investment Journal has always been one of the biggest advocates of CPSEs performance and has always recognized contribution of these fabulous organisations in the nation building exercise. With this thought process we instituted DSIJ PSU Award in 2009 perhaps first to its kind to facilitate these gems of Indian industries and kept on this tradition in an untiring manner. Keeping pace with this rich heritage, DSIJ organised sixth edition of “DSIJ PSU AWARD 2014” in New Delhi at Indian Habitat Centre on March 23, 2015. This coveted and glittering event was attended by who’s who of corporate world, bureaucracy and Public Sector space. Graced by Chief Guest Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Government of India, Guests of Honour, Gen (Dr.) V K Singh (Retd.) Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) for Statistics and Programme Implementation Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs, External Affairs Govt. of India and Shri K. D. Tripathi, Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, Government of India.

The ceremony was kicked off with a welcome address by Deepak Jhangiani, CEO, DSIJ, which was followed with the unveiling of the prized publication ‘India’s Best Public Sector Enterprises 2014’. Rajesh Padode, Managing Director, DSIJ, explained the process employed in selecting the winners and threw light on how a coherent quantitative ranking model for evaluating the PSUs based on various financial parameters. This was followed by the award ceremony for the deserving PSUs and was distributed at the hands of the honourable Chief Guest and Guests of Honour. This was followed up by a very interesting key note addressed by Shri. Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu. “While pointing towards entrepreneurial model of overseas public sector companies, especially in France, which work in an open environment competing head-on with private sector”, he said that “these government companies today became true multinationals but their Indian counterparts are still work in a closed environment and work under government control as controlled companies.”

While congratulating DSIJ for organising the Awards, Gen (Dr.) V K Singh (Retd.) cautioned PSUs for the laid back attitude and called for putting up an efficient effort to change their image and compete with private sector and multinationals at global platform. Shri K D Tripathi highlighted the remarkable performance of PSUs during FY14 and praised them for national building exercise along with social and financial performance.
