On Tuesday, Indian markets opened in the red amid considerable volatility, owing to mixed global cues.

On Sensex, FMCG was down by 0.89 per cent, IT plunged 1.29 per cent and healthcare slipped 0.83 per cent while all other indices were somewhat higher.  

  

BSE Sensex opened on a negative note, following the Asian market cues, falling by 130 points to 54,158.25 at 10.50 am. S&P BSE Midcap index also declined 126 points and trades at 22,322.40 levels. S&P BSE Smallcap dropped 104 points and trades at 26,077.25 levels. Sensex Top Gainers include Power Grid Corporation of India (1.83 per cent), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (1.54 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.06 per cent), HDFC (0.92 per cent), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.93 per cent).   

   

Nifty 50 index fell by a small margin of 43 points and is trading at 16,171.55 levels. Bank Nifty, on the other hand, grew by 107 points and is at a level of 34,354.80. The top gainers on Nifty 50 are Power Grid Corporation of India (1.69 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.18 per cent), Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (1.62 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (0.99 per cent), and JSW Steel (1.05 per cent).  

   

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 1,951.71 crore on May 23 while the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,445.39 crore.
