The domestic equities market got off to a shaky start on Friday with broader indices slipping in the early trade due to weak global indications. The sharp sell-off in the United States was caused by negative global cues as investors' enthusiasm for equities worsened following the release of US inflation data. Additionally, investors have become more cautious as global stock markets continue to fall due to concerns about global growth as Swiss National Bank/Switzerland and the UK raise interest rates.

BSE Sensex opened in red and is trading with a marginal loss of 263 points at a level of 51,232 at 11.26 am. BSE Midcap index too weakened 169 points and trades at 21,295 levels. Likewise, BSE Smallcap dropped 207 points and trades at 24,139 levels. Sensex Top Gainers include Tata Steel (1.99 per cent), Bajaj Finserv (1.62 per cent), Reliance Industries (1.08 per cent), State Bank of India (0.92 per cent), and ITC (0.44 per cent).

Nifty index fell by 79 points and trades at 15,281 levels. On the contrary, Bank Nifty saw a slight gain of 12 points to trade at 32,630 levels. The top gaining stocks on Nifty are JSW Steel (2.31 per cent) and Coal India (1.58 per cent). Stocks in FMCG, auto, IT, and pharma took the brunt of the losses. The IT index lost over 600 points on NSE while the FMCG & pharma indices lost 500 points and 250 points, respectively. On Nifty index, only the metal sector is seen trading in the green.
