Watch out for these penny stocks locked in the upper circuit on August 17

The shares of Aarti Drugs jumped 11.10 per cent as the media reported that the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the continuation of anti-dumping duty on Ofloxacin imported from China.

Sensex regains 60,000 while Nifty crosses 17,900 for the first time in four months. Investors eagerly anticipate the release of the US FOMC meeting minutes later today. Domestic equities, on the other hand, are likely to take up the pace as inflationary pressures appear to be abating and oil prices are stabilising globally.   

 

The shares of Aarti Drugs jumped 11.10 per cent as the media reported that the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the continuation of anti-dumping duty on Ofloxacin imported from China. Also, the shares of NXT Digital Ltd (NDL) gained 3.59 per cent after the company's board approved the proposed scheme of arrangement for the merger of Hinduja Leyland Finance (HLFL) with the company.  

  

The barometer index S&P BSE Sensex soared 332 points to trade at 60,174 levels at 11.03 am. S&P BSE Midcap index trades at 25,186, up by 166 points. S&P BSE Smallcap index too zoomed 190 points to trade at 28,384 levels. In terms of sectoral indices, except metals and auto, all other sectors are trading in the green with marginal upside where power, telecom & utilities stocks surged more than a per cent each.  

  

Nifty index trades at 17,922 levels with a gain of only 97 points. Likewise, Bank Nifty rallied 101 points to trade at 39,341 levels. The Top Gainers on Nifty are Bajaj Finserv (5.30 per cent), Bajaj Finance (3.13 per cent), NTPC (2.83 per cent), HDFC Life Insurance (2.56 per cent), and Eicher Motors (2.28 per cent).  

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 1,376.84 crore on August 16 while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) sold shares worth Rs 136.24 crore.
