If you are in need of funds and wish to redeem your mutual fund units, you can do so in two ways—online or offline. The online redemption process is easier and faster than the offline method. For online redemption, you need to be registered on the website of the concerned mutual fund house (Asset Management Company) or the Registrar & Transfer Agent (RTA) of the AMC. Once you are registered on the website of the AMC or RTA, you can log in to your online mutual fund account on the website of AMC or RTA, then click on the redemption button on the website and confirm the transaction. That’s it! The redemption proceeds will be credited to your bank account within three-four working days. Even if you have invested in the MF scheme offline, you can still redeem the units online through the websites of the AMC or RTA.

You can also redeem the MF units offline by submitting a duly filled in and signed Redemption Request Form (RRF) at the office of the AMC or RTA. The RRF must contain all the relevant details such as the name(s) of the unitholder(s), folio number, name of the mutual fund scheme, bank details, etc. After the RRF is submitted. the AMC will credit the redemption amount directly into the bank account of the unitholder in three-four working days.

In the case of liquid, ultra short-term or debt funds, the redemption proceeds may be credited on the same or next day, depending on the type of scheme and the time of submission of the redemption request.

However, in the case of redemption of Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) units, the unitholder has to redeem these units through his/her trading account with the stock broking firm.
