Vodafone Idea, HFCL and Indus Tower put together contribute to the BSE Telecom index gains

The BSE Telcom index along with the BSE Consumer Durables index was seen trading in green on Tuesday even as BSE Sensex closed in red along with the broader markets. 

All the other sectoral indices closed in red on Tuesday on a closing basis.

Vodafone Idea was the top BSE Telecom index gainer on Tuesday, closing higher by more than 14 per cent. Investors are betting on Vodafone as the perception is that the company will eventually survive and may stay afloat. 

Indus Tower soared by more than 7 per cent while Tejas Network was locked in upper circuit after gaining by 5 per cent on Tuesday. Tejas Network is one of the top multibaggers in the past one year after the stock rose by more than 500 per cent. In one month, the stock is up by more than 18 per cent. Tejas Network lost some steam after the investors were concerned about the company’s exposure to Afghanistan. 

Bharti Airtel was up by more than 2 per cent while HFCL jumped higher by 2.38 per cent on Tuesday.  BSE Sensex traded volatile on Tuesday and managed to close in red.
