At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 134.31 points or 0.17 per cent. By 9.17 am, the index stood at 79,902.33, signifying a loss of 214 points or 0.27 per cent over its previous closing.

On the sectoral front, in the pre-opening session, metals jumped by 0.02 per cent, power slipped by 0.13 and auto dropped by 0.47 per cent.
Meanwhile, SAMHI Hotels Ltd, Brigade Enterprises Ltd and Garware Hi-Tech Films Ltd emerged as the Top Gainers of BSE in the pre-opening session today.
SAMHI Hotels Ltd, an S&P BSE company, surged 6.38 per cent to trade at Rs 185.15 apiece. SAMHI and GIC establish a Joint Venture platform for Upscale and higher hotel assets in India with total investment of Rs 2200 crore.
Brigade Enterprises Ltd, an S&P BSE company, gained 4.78 per cent to trade at Rs 1,097.95 apiece. The company has not made any significant announcements of late. Hence, the rally in the share price could be driven purely by the market forces.
Garware Hi-Tech Films Ltd, an S&P BSE company, rose 4.70 per cent to trade at Rs 3,389.00 apiece. The company has not made any significant announcements of late. Hence, the rally in the share price could be driven purely by the market forces.
