At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 265.12 points or 0.34 per cent. By 9.17 am, the index stood at 77,910.53 signifying a loss of 337.6 points or 0.43 per cent over its previous closing.

On the sectoral front, in the pre-opening session, metals dropped by 0.19 per cent, power plunged by 0.19 and auto slipped by 0.23 per cent.
Meanwhile, Orient Electric Ltd, GMR Power and Urban Infra Ltd and Tega Industries Ltd emerged as the Top Gainers of BSE in the pre-opening session today.
Orient Electric Ltd an S&P BSE company, surged 6.24 per cent to trade at Rs 253 apiece. The company has not made any significant announcements of late. Hence, the rally in the share price could be driven purely by the market forces.
