At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 709.94 points or 0.86 per cent. By 9.15 am, the index stood at 82,003.65 signifying a loss of 551.79 points or 0.67 per cent over its previous closing.
On the sectoral front, in the pre-opening session, metals slipped by 1.28 per cent, power plunged by 1.98 and auto dropped by 0.57 per cent.
