At the pre-opening bell, the frontline index S&P BSE Sensex opened in red with a loss of 179.20 points or 0.30 per cent. By 9.15 am, the index strengthened to 59,857.17, signifying gains of 24.2 points or 0.04 per cent.
On the sectoral front, in the pre-opening session, metals slipped by 0.15 per cent, power gained by 0.44 per cent whereas auto was up by 0.40 per cent.
Meanwhile, EIH Ltd, National Standard (India) Ltd and Triveni Engineering & Industries Ltd emerged as the Top Gainers of BSE in the pre-opening session today.
