Tata Power strategic engineering division (Tata Power SED), a division of Tata Power Company Limited, announced the signing of a contract with Ministry of Defence, Government of India, for infrastructure modernisation of 37 airfields of Indian Airforce, Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard in a contract, which is to be executed over a period of four years.

The estimated value of the contract is about Rs 1,200 crore, which involves the supply, installation and commissioning of modern airfield equipment like Cat II instrument landing system and Cat II airfield lightning system along with other navigational aids and Air Traffic Management (ATM) apart from creating the required civil and electrical infrastructure.

In March 2011, the division had obtained a contract from Ministry of Defence for about Rs 1,220 crore for modernisation of 30 airfields and successfully executed the same. The latest contract is a continuation of the previous order with additional 37 airfields undergoing modernisation, which would provide excellent control of airfield systems to air traffic controllers, enhancing aerospace safety and operational capability by facilitating operations in poor visibility and adverse weather conditions.

Tata Power Company Limited generates and supplies electricity. It constructs and operates independent power plants, as well as specialises in transmission and distribution of electricity. The company is in the process of selling its defence business (Tata Power SED) to Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) through a scheme of arrangement.

At 12 pm on Monday, the stock was trading at Rs 28.95, up by 1.75 per cent or Rs 0.80 per share. The 52-week high is recorded at Rs 74.05 and the 52-week low is Rs 27.70 on BSE.
