The Company saw a reduction in net profit of 11.9 percent, standing at Rs 409.32 crore versus Rs 464.69 crore in the previous year.

Sun TV Network, the parent company of IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, saw a reduction in net profit of 11.9 percent, standing at Rs 409.32 crore versus Rs 464.69 crore in the previous year.

Financial Performance
In the second quarter of FY25, Sun TV Network recorded a 10.9 percent decline in consolidated revenue from operations, amounting to Rs 934.54 crore compared to Rs 1,048.45 crore in the same quarter last year. EBITDA dropped by 25.7 percent, coming in at Rs 540.82 crore from Rs 727.82 crore in Q2FY24. Additionally, the EBITDA margin contracted by 1,150 basis points, standing at 57.9 percent compared to 69.4 percent in the same period last year. These results reflect ongoing challenges in the broadcasting sector, where shifting viewer preferences are impacting traditional revenue streams.

About Sun TV
Sun TV Network is one of India’s largest television broadcasters, operating 37 satellite TV channels across seven languages: Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bangla, Marathi, and Hindi. It also runs a network of FM radio stations across India. The company owns the IPL franchise “Sunrisers Hyderabad” as well as Sunrisers Eastern Cape, a team in Cricket South Africa’s T20 League. Sun TV Network has a branch office in South Africa and also operates its own OTT platform, “SUNNXT”.

Acquisition of Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sun TV Network, led by media entrepreneur Kalanithi Maran, acquired the Hyderabad IPL franchise in October 2012 through a competitive auction. The acquisition included a winning bid of Rs 85.05 crore per year over a five-year period, amounting to Rs 425 crore (approximately $80 million) in total.

In FY24, Sun TV Network experienced a 13.5 percent revenue boost, largely driven by the impressive performance of its cricket franchises, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Together, these franchises significantly contributed to Sun TV Network’s revenue, which surged by 138.7 percent from Rs 276.01 crore in FY23 to Rs 659.03 crore in FY24.

Sunrisers Hyderabad, playing in the popular IPL, drew a lot of attention last season with its powerful batting performances and has built a large, loyal fan base. Meanwhile, its sister team, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, has been performing well in South Africa’s SA20 League, helping the brand grow in two major T20 leagues.
