The Indian headline indices ended the session lower, primarily due to massive losses in the metal sector, with BSE Metals tumbling more than 2 per cent. Real estate, utilities and power stocks, on the other hand, attempted to offset losses with significant gains.
The BSE Sensex lost 0.55 per cent to settle at 58,962 level at the close. The Nifty 50 index fell 0.51 per cent to a level of 17,303.

Primo Chemicals - Being the top BSE Smallcap gainer, shares of the company soared over 12 per cent with a surge in volume in an otherwise sluggish market, wherein broader indices outpaced major indices by a significant margin.
HPL Electric & Power - Shares of HPL Electric & Power Ltd (HPL), a leading Indian electric equipment manufacturer, witnessed a significant closing rally, surging more than 6 per cent. The company today announced that it has won a smart meter order worth Rs 409.10 crore from an institutional customer in west India.
Muthoot Capital Services - Debenture Issue and Allotment Committee of Muthoot Capital Services Ltd at its meeting, approved fundraising by the way of issuance of non-convertible debentures amounting to Rs 50 crore on a private placement basis. Shares fell more than 2 per cent at the market close.
