In spite of contradicting global cues, the Indian domestic indices opened Thursday’s trading session slightly higher but losses in the multiple sectors rapidly drove the indices down. The broader markets outperformed the major indices and closed in the green. Ceat Ltd and South Indian Bank jointly led BSE Smallcap pack to lock at a 20 per cent upper circuit.
Weizmann Ltd and Sharp India were the top low-priced gainers on BSE, locking in a 20 per cent upper circuit. As a result of a surge in the volume of more than 144 times, PVR emerged as a stock with the highest turnover of the session.
The two biggest market draggers were BSE IT and BSE Teck while the metals & realty sectors also faced losses of over a per cent. On the contrary, BSE Utilities and BSE Power both climbed almost 2 per cent, driven by the shares of NHPC Ltd, which soared more than 4 per cent.
The shares of Tamilnad Mercantile Bank had a dismal stock market debut when the stock was listed for Rs 495 per share on NSE, down by about 3 per cent from its IPO issue price of Rs 510 per share. The stock began trading at Rs 510 per share on BSE.
