Despite the market weakness, Ultracab India Ltd, Eros International Media, and DCM Ltd were the top low-priced gainers on BSE, locking in a 20 per cent upper circuit.
According to provisional data available on NSE on August 18, the domestic institutional investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 470.79 crore while foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares for Rs 1,706 crore for the first time this month. The rally in the domestic indices halted in the face of conflicting global sentiments.
Earlier in the day, BSE IT and BSE Teck climbed in line with the advance in US IT and technology sector equities but the Indian benchmark indices declined. The top winning sectors were BSE Power and BSE Utilities, both headed by Adani Green Energy shares, which surged more than 5 per cent. Almost all sectors were trading lower with real estate and metals being the biggest losers.
The only Sensex gainers were Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, and Tata Consultancy Services. BSE Midcap index plunged 1.27 per cent while the Small-Cap index fell 0.93 per cent. With gains of 20 per cent, Repco Home Finance was BSE Smallcap pack's biggest gainer.
