DFM Foods, the top gainer on BSE Smallcap, kept bulls in the small-cap sector busy as the shares soared and got locked up at a 20 per cent upper circuit.
The Indian headline indices opened flat on Friday ahead of the release of retail inflation data. With the majority of sectors on the upswing, BSE Oil & Gas sector led the way, soaring nearly 2.5 per cent. Oil & gas and energy stocks aided indices to recoup their initial losses and move higher.
International Energy Agency (IEA) revised its forecast for this year's growth in oil demand as some consumers switched to oil as a response to rising natural gas prices, which thus, led to an increase in oil prices of more than a per cent.
BSE Midcap index advanced 0.15 per cent while BSE Smallcap index gained 0.39 per cent. In an otherwise flat market, Kovilpatti Lakshmi Roller Flour Mills, KBS India Ltd, and Narbada Gems & Jewellery were the top low price gainers on BSE, locking in the 20 per cent upper circuit.
