Sensex tanks 1,941 points; biggest single day fall ever!
Sensex tumbled by 1,941 points or 5.17 per cent and closed at 35,634 levels. At one point of time, Sensex was down by more than 2,400 points on intraday basis. The spread of COVID-19 and the crash in the crude oil prices spooked the global markets pushing European indices down by anywhere between four per cent and nine per cent.
Within the Nifty basket, Yes Bank, Infratel, BPCL and Eicher Motors were the only index gainers.
ONGC, Reliance, IndusInd Bank, Tata Steel, TCS and SBI were the biggest Sensex loser slipping by 16.55 per cent, 13 per cent, 12.3 per cent, 8.10 per cent, 6.42 per cent and 6.75 per cent, respectively.
Banks were the biggest loser in today’s market. RBL Bank was down by 22 per cent, IndusInd Bank by 12 per cent, Federal Bank by nine per cent and IDFC First Bank by nine per cent.
