Sensex slips by over 400 points; Inox Leisure plummets 10.19 per cent
In today's trading session, domestic indices dropped substantially as Sensex dipped by 413.89 points or 1.20 per cent to settle at 33,956.69 while Nifty succeeded in staying above 10K level despite strong profit booking by investors, thereby closing at 10,046.65 which is 120.80 points or 1.19 per cent lower than its previous close.
An overall weakness trend is visible even in the global markets as investors rush to book profits from previous rallies. Amidst European indices, FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 decreased by 1.72 per cent, 2 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.
INOX Leisure Limited, a multiplex chain operator, declared a consolidated net loss of Rs 82.15 crore for Q4FY20 as its business was considerably impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and resultant lockdown. Consequently, the stock priced tumbled by 10.19 per cent. On the contrary, shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) soared 9.64 percent after the company made the announcement of successfully commissioning a 270 MW thermal unit at the Bhadradri thermal power project in Telangana.
In the Sensex basket, 21 stocks declined while merely nine stocks advanced. Sensex winners consist of IndusInd Bank rallying by 2.71 per cent, Sun Pharmaceuticals increasing by 2.37 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra gaining by 1.04 per cent, HDFC rising by 0.55 per cent, ITC gaining by 0.43 per cent, etc.
Sensex losers comprise ICICI Bank falling by 3.15 per cent, Bharti Airtel dropping by 2.93 per cent, HDFC Bank which fell by 2.81 per cent, Bajaj Finance declining by 2.55 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank decreasing by 2.54 per cent, Axis Bank which fell by 2.46 per cent, RIL dipping by 2.10 per cent etc.
Amidst BSE sectoral indices, the biggest loser was Telecom, dipping by 3.06 per cent. BSE FMCG and BSE Realty were the only two indices to close in green, gaining by merely 0.01 per cent and 0.30 per cent respectively. BSE small-cap declined by 1 per cent while BSE mid-cap dropped by 0.21 per cent.
