Sensex, Nifty hit record highs

The BSE Sensex opened positive on Wednesday at 39,167.05 and hit an all-time high of 39,266.85 in early trade ahead of RBI's monetary policy announcement scheduled for Thursday. 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is expected to cut rates in its first bi-monthly review for FY2019-20. Positive cues from the international market also help the rally.
Among the top gainers on Sensex were Tata Steel, IndusInd Bank, Tata Motors, Maruti, HDFC and Yes Bank. The top contributors to the index gains were HDFC contributing 49.92 points, Reliance 24.03 points, IndusInd 18.61 points and Kotak Bank and Maruti contributing around 15 points each. 

Nifty50 set an all-time high of 11,761 points. The index opened at 11,735.30. The breadth of the market was in the favour of bulls, Nifty showed 32 advances, 17 declines and 1 unchanged stock. Among the top gainers on the index were Indiabulls Housing, Tata Motors, IndusInd Bank, HDFC and Bharti Airtel, while among the top losers were Britannia, Tech Mahindra, Infy, Eicher Motor and BPCL. 

Of the index stocks, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv and Asian Paints hit their 52-week high, while HDFC, HDFC Bank, HCL, Reliance were at arm's length to their 52-week high levels. 

Sectorally, Metals, Auto, Banks were gaining, while IT and Media were losing in morning trade.

On Wednesday, at 9:54 hours, the benchmark indices were slightly off their record highs. The BSE Sensex was at 39,229.48, up by 172.83 points or 0.44 per cent, while Nifty50 was quoting 11,747.10, up by 33.90 points or 0.29 per cent.
