Sensex, Nifty end near day's high; RIL's market cap reaches Rs 13 trillion, Rossari Biotech soars on debut

After a day's skip, domestic benchmark indices ended on a positive note on Thursday, with Sensex gaining by 268.95 points or 0.71 per cent to settle at 38,140.47, near to the day's high of 38,225.03. Nifty rose by 82.85 points or 0.74 per cent to end at 11,215.45, close to its day's high of 11,239.80.

Swiss engineering major, ABB India announced that it has bagged an order to execute the country's largest process automation and safety system projects in the agro-chemical sector from Deccan Fine Chemicals. Post the announcement, the stock of the company gained by nearly 2 per cent on BSE.

Shares of Future Retail tumbled by 5 per cent after Standard & Poor's (S&P) stated that it missed a repayment of Rs 100 crore (about US$ 14 million) on its US$ 500 million foreign currency bonds.

Specialty chemical company Rossari Biotech listed on BSE at Rs 670 per share at a premium of 57.65 per cent against the issue price of Rs 425 per share. The initial public offering sold in the price band of Rs 423-425 from July 13 to July 15 and was subscribed over 79 times.

Erasing its early gains, Indian Rupee ended flat at 74.75 per dollar amid buying witnessed in the domestic equity market. Oil prices rose on the back of a weaker dollar, but gains were capped by concerns about rising US oil inventories and a persistent surge in new coronavirus cases.

21 stocks advanced in the Sensex basket while eight stocks declined. Sensex winners comprised SBI rising by 3.28 per cent, ICICI Bank gaining by 2.94 per cent, RIL increasing by 2.82 per cent, Tech Mahindra gaining by 2.28 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank increasing by 2.14 per  cent, ITC up by 2.09 per cent, Mahindra & Mahindra rising by 1.97 per cent, Bajaj Auto up by 1.89 per cent, etc. Sensex losers consisted of Axis Bank falling by 3.80 per cent, HUL dipping by 1.57 per cent, Infosys dropping by 1.15 per cent, TCS declining by 0.88 per cent, UltraTech Cement decreasing by 0.67 per cent, Larsen & Toubro down by 0.50 per cent, etc.

Amongst the BSE sectoral indices, Energy index was the biggest gainer, up by 2.36 per cent while IT index was the top loser, down by 0.61 per cent. BSE small-cap index rose by 0.61 per cent and BSE mid-cap index gained by 0.98 per cent.
