Sensex, Nifty end higher; Page Industries gains 3 per cent, Affle India tumbles, DHFL locks in at lower circuit

On Friday, Sensex gained by 0.15 per cent or 70.35 points to close at 46,960.69 levels while Nifty rose by 0.14 per cent or by 19.85 points to settle at 13,760.55 levels.

After a volatile morning session, gains in IT and pharma stocks, as well as select mid-caps, pushed the indices higher. Meanwhile, selling pressure was seen in metal, infra & banking stocks during today's trading session.

In the global markets, Shanghai Composite Index and Hang Seng declined by 0.29 per cent and 0.67 per cent, respectively after the market reports suggested that the US is set to add dozens of more Chinese companies to trade blacklist. Japan's Nikkei index closed down by 0.16 per cent whereas, South Korea's KOSPI closed flat with a positive bias. In the European markets, indices such as FTSE 100 and DAX were trading in the green, up by 0.11 per cent and 0.13 per cent, respectively while CAC 40 traded flat.

Besides, the Indian rupee ended flat at 73.57 per dollar.

Sensex gainers included Infosys that jumped 2.64 per cent, Bajaj Auto surged 2.39 per cent, SBI increased by 1.42 per cent, ICICI Bank rose by 1.40 per cent, HCL Technologies gained by 1.32 per cent, Titan Company went up by 1.26 per cent, Asian Paints strengthened by 1.07 per cent, etc.

Sensex losers consisted of IndusInd Bank that plunged 3.30 per cent, ONGC slumped 2.51 per cent, HDFC Bank declined by 2.09 per cent, Maruti Suzuki decreased by 1.64 per cent, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel & Kotak Mahindra Bank fell by 0.84 per cent each while NTPC went down by 0.67 per cent, etc.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, the IT index was the biggest gainer, up by 1.70 per cent while the Telecom index was the biggest loser, down by 1.41 per cent. The broader markets underperformed as BSE Mid-Cap index fell by 0.35 per cent while BSE Small-Cap index declined by 0.24 per cent.
