Sensex, Nifty close in red; Larsen & Toubro down by 4.99 per cent, Titan Company loses 3.32 per cent

On Thursday, the domestic benchmark indices closed in the red. The markets remained volatile during today’s trading session as Sensex closed down by 172.61 points or 0.43 per cent to settle at 39,749.85 levels while Nifty ended the session down by 58.80 points or 0.50 per cent to close at 11,670.80 levels.

On the global front, FTSE, CAC 40, and DAX increased by 0.40 per cent, 0.30 per cent, and 0.68 per cent, respectively.

Asian indices such as Hang Seng, KOSPI, and Nikkei fell by 0.49 per cent, 0.79 per cent, and 0.37 per cent, respectively while Shanghai index was up by 0.25 per cent.

The top gainers in Sensex included Asian Paints that went up by 2.79 per cent, UltraTech Cement gained by 1.90 per cent, HCL Technologies strengthened by 1.24 per cent, Kotak Mahindra Bank increased by 1.21 per cent and ICICI Bank inched up by 0.95 per cent.

The top losers in Sensex consisted of L&T that went down by 4.99 per cent, Titan Company slipped by 3.32 per cent, ONGC slid by 2.94 per cent, Axis Bank fell by 2.21 per cent and Hindustan Unilever weakened by 1.98 per cent.

Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, capital goods & consumer durables indices were the biggest losers, which went down by 2.14 per cent and 1.75 per cent, respectively. They were followed by industrials, FMCG, auto, healthcare, and finance that fell by 1.30 per cent, 1.02 per cent, 0.95 per cent, 0.76 per cent, and 0.64 per cent, respectively.

Meanwhile, indices such as energy, basic materials, IT, and oil & gas were the major gainers, which were up by 0.57 per cent, 0.46 per cent, 0.20, and 0.16 per cent, respectively.

In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap Index declined by 0.55 per cent while BSE Mid-Cap Index decreased by 0.01 per cent.
