Sensex & Nifty bleed, banks tumble; Mindtree dips 8.11 per cent, Vodafone Idea plunges 4.88 per cent
Markets were volatile on Wednesday but today i.e. on the expiry day, markets were in control of the bears. Sensex slid by 1,066.33 points or 2.61 per cent to close at 39,728.41 while Nifty declined by 290.70 points or 2.43 per cent to settle at 11,680.35.
On the global front, FTSE fell by 2.23 per cent, CAC 40 declined by 2.18 per cent and DAX slipped by 2.89 per cent.
Asian indices such as Shanghai index, Hang Seng, KOSPI & Nikkei closed in red, down by 0.26 per cent, 2.06 per cent, 0.81 per cent & 0.51 per cent, respectively.
Asian Paints became the only gainer on Sensex today, which was up by 0.32 per cent.
Meanwhile, Sensex draggers consisted of Bajaj Finance that was down by 4.68 per cent, Tech Mahindra slipped by 4.32 per cent, IndusInd Bank slid by 3.94 per cent, ICICI Bank fell by 3.91 per cent while State Bank of India weakened by 3.60 per cent.
Amongst sectoral indices on BSE, Telecom was the biggest loser, which was down by 3.54 per cent, followed by BSE Bankex Index that fell by 3.31 per cent while BSE Energy index, BSE Finance, and BSE TECK Index too declined by 3.10 per cent, 2.86 per cent, and 2.75 per cent, respectively.
In the broader markets, BSE Small-Cap index and BSE Mid-Cap index declined by 1.45 per cent and 1.75 per cent, respectively.
